StudyAdelaide’s Job Shop won the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) Innovation award, which was announced at this week’s AIEC conference in Melbourne.

Up to 30 Adelaide businesses are promoting job opportunities via StudyAdelaide’s Job Shop at any one time. Students can apply for jobs or volunteering opportunities through Job Shop even before they leave their home countries to come to live in Adelaide.

StudyAdelaide Chief Executive Jane Johnston said Job Shop was created to address one of the key obstacles facing international students – and employers.

“One of the first challenges many international students face is entering the Australian job market,” Ms Johnston said. “Similarly, many employers are struggling to find casual and part-time workers in industries such as hospitality, aged care, and retail. As a solution, StudyAdelaide created Job Shop – an innovative online platform connecting international students to reputable organisations offering casual and part-time positions.”

Job Shop now offers opportunities in diverse industries with entry-level roles for students with little or no experience. StudyAdelaide and its member education institutions promote the free platform internationally and at local orientation events.

“Our Job Shop workshops help incoming students navigate the job market, understand the unique requirement of Australian business culture, and Australian work rights,” Ms Johnston said.

Initially launched as a short-term project in 2022 Job Shop continues to be enhanced and is one of StudyAdelaide’s most successful initiatives.

“I’m thrilled to accept this award on behalf of StudyAdelaide’s wide network of members and supportive stakeholders who have helped make Job Shop such an outstanding success,” Ms Johnston said.
